How IMO prevents falls

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 28% to 35% of people over 65 years of age fall annually. This percentage rises to 32% to 42% for people over 70 years of age. The frequency of falls increases with age and the level of frailty. According to the same WHO report, 30% to 50% of people living institutionalized fall annually and 40% of them suffer recurrent falls.

Falls and subsequent injuries are health problems that often require medical evaluation. Falls correspond to a large percentage of hospitalizations of people over 65 years of age. The most common injuries are hip fractures, brain injuries and injuries to the upper limbs.

Fall prevention is one of IMO’s biggest concerns in the process of creating hospital furniture. Our hospital beds have side guards that respect the EN 60601-2-52 standard.

The guards prevent and avoid the risk of injury caused by accidental falls through a high lateral cover and components with adequate spaces to avoid entrapment of body parts of patients and caregivers. Thus, the safety of the patient and the health professional comes first.

The low height of our beds and the specific design of the guards also help to exit the bed. The guards hide under the bed, allowing other devices to be placed next to the bed to transfer the patient safely.
